MRI Imaging – the Spy of Our Body

Does MRI work and if it is safe? Keep on reading and you’ll know about all the risks and benefits.

MRI was initially given the name NMRI (nuclear magnetic resonance imaging). The use of the word nuclear was canceled or stopped because it was considered harmful, and patients may feel scared to hear this word. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a nonsurgical, painless, and noninvasive technique or procedure to detect and see different internal organs and tissues present inside our body. A strong magnetic field created with the help of powerful magnets and radio waves to understand and produce the images from inside the body.

MRI imaging scans produce 3-dimensional images of the part of the body which undergoes an MRI scan. MRI scanning does not involve any harmful radiation, and patients are saved from the exposure from harmful emissions of the x-ray procedure. Radiologists and specialized doctors use the report of MRI to diagnose different diseases which cannot be seen through or detected using other techniques like computed tomography scans, popularly known as CT scans USG and x-rays. MRI imaging has proved to be beneficial in diagnosing diseases of heart, nervous system, bone, and joint problems and infections, and other conditions of the spinal cord and other internal organs.

MRI scanning though was invented long before, but its development started in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and since then, it has proved to be an essential and multi-tasked imaging technique. MRI scanning technique is the most used technique all over the world among all the imaging techniques and has proved to be helpful in the field of diagnosis of different diseases and biomedical researches. An MRI scan provides a lot of data that comprises physical and chemical data along with the detailed 3D images of the body part that has been scanned. MRI scans can produce a variety of chemical and physical data, in addition to detailed spatial photos. Due to the increasing demand of the scanning procedure through MRI’s, it has become a topic of debate on how to make it cost-effective without getting into by the hospitals and scanning clinics.

An MRI scan is a painless, noninvasive procedure that does not involve any hospitalization. Moreover, it has the edge over other scanning procedures like x-ray, as there is no exposure of harmful radiation to the person undergoing this procedure as it happens in x-ray procedure the advantage of avoiding x-ray radiation exposure. However, it has also been witnessed that this procedure has no side effects. It gives an exact and detailed image of the part that undergoes scanning.

MRI scanning technique helps in the identification of diseased areas with utmost accuracy and gives the number of images with the slightest of the details.
